  • VAG Art Rental & Sales Web Design Proposal
The Art Rental & Sales department of the Vancouver Art Gallery wanted to showcase their art collections online. The Department feel they are in need of a professional and engaging web presence in order to gain more customers. The website however, is not an online shop because the staffs appreciated the humanistic interaction when showing and selling art. The solution was to create a highly-visual experience for AR&S's customers by featuring large compelling artwork right from the beginning. Unfortunately due to the internal structural change within the Vancouver Art Gallery, the project was terminated. Despite the sad news, I was still quite happy with the design direction, so after some touchups, the design is now complete.

    In collaboration with Vincent Chu.

  • Taipei Film Festival 2013 Branding Proposal
To watch a film is to see the world behind cameras. The concept is to mimic the idea of viewing the world through the camera, hence the viewfinder-inspired branding. Taking the minimalist approach, the typography pairs with simple lines and shapes to create the logo, while the poster design is illuminated with local photographs for a taste of Taipei.

Photography is credited to Shannie Hsu.

  • Nadia Hung Photography Branding
Nadia Hung is a wedding photographer who shoots in film. Her style of photography can be described as candid, light-hearted with a hint of whimsey. The brand identity reflects the elegance and beauty of weddings with a brush script; and to echo the candid look, the script is written by hand. With Avenir LT Std being the supporting typeface, the typographic logo adds a modern and minimalist touch to the overall branding. The color choices are the simple black and white because neutral colors are perfect for a portfolio to feature art and photography.

I took the left forgotten characters from the past few years and reconstructed a poster for the winter season. The poster is designed to be cut up into 12 equal pieces for the 12 different characters.

The Armless Man began as a conceptual character for my first children's book project "The Pie Eaters". Born without arms, the Armless Man relies on the help of his animal friends to go about in life.

  • We dream of the Universe.
Hidden worlds or not, I believe dreams are powerful. They are our sources of creativity. We can find valuable answers, illuminating inspirations and brilliant revelations through these nocturnal therapies.

The activity of sharing dreams has been a daily practice conducted by the early civilizations and the indigenous peoples long ago. In our modern culture, we have neglected this spiritual part of life. I wish to bring back this ancient practice that had been once celebrated to enrich our creative thinking and aid us in the understanding of the Universe and of Life.

Perhaps through the act of sharing dreams, will we unravel the true Universe undiscovered by science.

  • The Hiding-in-the-Wrong-Place Club X Mimibuloveme
The Hiding-in-the-Wrong-Place Club is a group of foodies who hide and meddle in world cuisines as an attempt to learn and understand all cultures alike.

Food and travel go hand-in-hand. Vancouver-based illustrator Andy Wang has always been fascinated and enlightened by the different cuisines encountered on his world journeys. Because food is culture, food serves as an exciting invitation and tasteful introduction to foreign and unfamiliar terrain, allowing people to learn and share. The Hiding-in-the-Wrong-Place Club is born to help transcend this belief.

  • Pokerfaces
How to draw faces? As an illustrator, I've been studying faces and the ways to convey facial expressions through very basic geometry. By incorporating the four suits in playing cards with simple shapes and lines, 14 faces were born. This project was created while I was working in China in 2012.

  • The Hiding-in-the-Wrong-Place Club
I love to travel, and I love food.

Being a traveler myself, I’ve always been fascinated by the different cuisines offered by the different cultures I encounter during my world journeys. The Hiding-in-the-Wrong-Place Club members are reflections of myself. They are there in that culture and melding with the locals by hiding in their food.

  • Charles & Meng Wedding
For many young couples like Charles and Meng, 2010 was the year to tie the knot. After talking to the wedding organizer, we'd arrived at a "non-traditional, light and dreamy" creative direction. This was right up the alley for me, as my current illustration style was of the same quality. We ended up with caricatures and diamonds in the pastel hues of yellow and pink. A cursive typographic logo was also created and applied throughout the wedding stationaries from invitations and guest books to tags and stamps. Join us in the garden!

  • Taiwanese Film Festival 2010
The Taiwanese Film Festival 2010 was another success. I am very happy and honored to have led the design this year with Ivy Mao. The branding was focused on the everyday Taiwan - something real and something cultural (but not overly cultural of course). We chuckled and laughed at the idea of the electric fan - something so odd and neglected, and whimsical perhaps due to its shape. But neverless, it was the saviour to the very humid and extremely hot summers of Taiwan. We voted on the idea and held a photoshoot with Pinky Li as our model at Ivy Mao’s home - which was decorated with some very traditional Taiwanese furnitures. Then comes the typography - Letter Gothic and Franklin Gothic Pro for the English, and a stretched Hei for the Chinese (yes, I know to never stretch type but for this particular case it turned out great). We even used the Chinese punctuation mark - the circular period - for enhancement.

  • Yellow Rocks and Salty Water
In the summer of 2010, five friends took an adventure. Voyaging through six states, we set a foot on Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyonming, Utah and Oregon, visiting Yellowstone National Park and the Great Salt Lake. Among us were Jerry Chuang, Novem Fung, Graham DK Lee, Daisy Wu, and lastly me, Andy Wang.

This is the memory of yellow rocks and salty water.

  • Imprismed
Working hard away in Asia for more than an year, nature became minimal and ignored. Aside from going to the office, lifestyle consisted of outings to a mall, a theatre or a restaurant, but never to a park, a lake nor a mountain. I felt imprisoned in a city.

  • IdN Advertisements
These whimsical illustrative ads were created during my term at the International Designers' Network (IdN) based in Hong Kong. “We have back issue!” was designed for the various events and trade shows IdN participates in. Whereas "Shop here my dear" and "Smell us at" were both illustrated to be used as advertisement in the famous IdN Mag to promote the Proshop.

There are ideas floating around of what we want to do, but it’s too much trouble to call people up. These are fly-by ideas, too small to invite people for. Jummpp.in is a place where we can share these ideas. So friends can know without having to ask, or anyone having to tell.

  • Laolao Handicraft House Branding
The adorable little shop named Laolao Handicraft House, is home to many collections of handmade goods such as stamps, paper and print products. With the store's strong emphasis on handicrafts, all of the packaging materials and stationaries were hand-stamped—echoing the handmade quality. The brand was designed to gear towards the young and Western market of the creative sector in China by adopting the made-cuter Victorian style silhouettes look.
